WHAT IS Family Home Evening?

WHAT IS FAMILY HOME EVENING??

Members of my church, The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, have set aside one night a week to be devoted to spending time together as a family. Typically this is Monday night. This means that Monday nights are reserved for Family Time. As a family we spend time together having lessons, playing games, or doing activities. Each Family Home Evening usually starts and ends with a prayer. Many families sing a song, we are not the best singers but even we try to include a song some of the time. And the kids' favorite part of Family Night is a treat after the closing prayer.

This is a great time to interact as a family and actually talk to each other without TV, phones, gaming systems, music devices or any other technology toys interupting.

Shadrach, Meshach, Abed-nego in the furnace of fire.

Shadrach, Meshach, Abed-nego in the furnace of fire.
Daniel Chapter 3

I did a simple drawings of
A. A furnace with a flame in the center of the furnace, but not taking up all the area in the furnace.
B. Figures to represent Shadrach, Meshach, & Abed-nego tied up.
C. Figures to represent Shadrach, Meshach, & Abed-nego loose.
D. Figure to represent the Son of God.
E. 6 additional flames to represent the furnace being 7 times hotter.

You could add:
A. Figures to represent the Mighty Men that will fall down dead as they go near the furnace.
B. King Nebuchadnezzar.

As you tell the story be sure to read key verses* and add or take away figures as needed.

Key verses:
5-6 ...what was expected of the people by Nebuchadnezzar
12 ... Shadrach, Meshach, & Abed-nego will not bow down.
13 ... Nebuchadnezzar has Shadrach, Meshach, & Abed-nego brought before him.
*15 ... Nebuchadnezzar asks, "who is that God that shall delivery you out of my hands?"
*16-18 ... Shadrach, Meshach, & Abed-nego reply with faith in God and say they will not worship Nebuchadnezzar's god.

22 ... Nebuchadnezzar's mightiest men die taking Shadrach, Meshach, & Abed-nego to the furnace.
23 ... Shadrach, Meshach, & Abed-nego fall down bound into the furnace.
*24-25 ... Nebuchadnezzar is astonished when he sees four men in the furnace unhurt "and the fourth is like unto the Son of God."
